The Windows 7 OS CD sold is technically an upgrade, so when doing clean installs it may display error messages. A common problem when installing Windows 7 using bootcamp on a Mac with this CD is that it will not accept the license key and claim it is an upgrade license.
BOOTCAMP SPECIFIC STEP:
- Use bootcamp in Snow Leopard. (Lion includes the same utility)
- If prompted by the setup wizard to download Windows support software, do so and note where it is stored.
- Boot to the bootcamp partition with the Win7 disk inserted in the optical drive.
- Reformat the Bootcamp Windows partition to NTFS using the install wizard under Custom install.
- Highlight the drive partition where Win 7 will be installed (it will probably say BOOTCAMP) > Click on ‘Format’ > A warning window will pop up, click on ‘OK’ if you agree > Hit ‘Next’ to continue.
- Do not enter any product keys in the setup, let Win 7 install. (Hit next without entering the product key.)
- When the install completes, boot to the Windows 7 Partition. (Hold down ‘Option’ key on startup and select Windows drive.
- Please continue to Windows 7 Clean Install to finish the installation
